Tips on Grilling Steaks - Things to Keep in Mind in Making Great Grilled Steak

Steaks are great for your grills on your summer cookout and barbeque parties. Although they are great and tasty, there are also things that you need to consider well in having steaks for your grills. Indeed, it can also be a not-so-easy one to grill. You might find some tips on grilling steaks useful, especially if it is your first time or if you think you just can't perfect the skill of grilling them.

In every grilling, the very first thing that you will do is choosing your meat and your ingredients - the spices, your sauce and marinades as well as your ingredients for your side dish. From this first step, you have to take note that the flavor of your steak will depend largely on the quality of your meat. One of the very basic tips on grilling steaks is to choose a good quality of meat.

- Choosing your meat. One of the bases of finding good quality meat is its marbling, because the more marbling your meat has, the juicier it can become when cooked.

Take note though that the marbling should be thin and even as much as possible. Otherwise, you will have a tough steak. The grades of meat that you may find in the supermarkets are the prime grade, which is the best quality because of its marbling; the choice grade; and the select grade, which may not have that abundant marbling than the prime grade. Price of course depends on their quality.

- Marinating your steak. Take note that the marinating time may differ depending on the cut of steak you are grilling - whether it is ribeye, Porterhouse or tenderloin. Marinating allows your meat to tenderize thus, it is important to marinate the meat longer if it is less tender. Soaking them in marinade overnight is also a great practice, but make sure to put in the refrigerator.

- Grilling your steaks. You should preheat the grills before putting your steak and you can also brush some vegetable oil on the grills to prevent the meat from sticking. One of the important tips on grilling steaks and any other meat is to make sure that it is cooked by the heat and not by the flames. The fat from the steak will cause flare-ups once it drips on the coals and this can char some portion of the meat. Worse, you might end up having a charred steak on the outside and uncooked meat on the inside, thus it is important to keep water in a spray bottle at hand to extinguish the flames.

- Determining when it is done. Your thermometer should help you determine whether your steak is done and ready. Take note too that the steak will continue to cook after a few minutes that your take them off the grill, so you can also give a few allowance on its temperature when you get the meat off the grill. You can also wrap the cooked steak in a foil while allowing it to rest to retain its juices on the meat.

After mastering these tips on grilling steaks, you can now then go ahead, make your side dishes, and enjoy your great cookout.
